German/Spanish translation please! (9)German/Spanish translation please! (10)

I was playing on Playchess.com and my opponent was in a little trouble. I get the message "aje ofrece tablas," followed by "aje rinde." Now im assuming "rinde" means "resigns." and "ofrece" means "offers." Does "tablas" mean a "draw" or "abort"? I'm not even sure what language this is. I'm also assuming it's German because it's Chessbase, but i'm not sure. Also looks Spanish. The guy I'm playing is from Ecuador and "aje" is his handle. Also, is there a site on internet that has chess terms in different languages? If there is, I haven't run across it or i would have used it. Any help would be appreciated.

I know a bit of Spanish...

Tablas is draw. Ofrece means offers. I think you might be right about rinde being resign but I'm not 100% sure.

According to Babelfish: Spanish to English

tablas=tables
rinde=it renders
oferce=offers

So the message would be "Aje offers tables." then "Aje renders." See what I mean about a specialized chess multilingual dictionary. A general dictionary just doesn't do it.

Remember, different languages have different word orders, so the first may be "Aje tables (an) offer"

just a thought!

What would "table an offer" mean? Maybe it's "offer a table." Maybe Aje wants to give me a table. In the next game he might offer a chair to go with it. Basically, what we have to know is what is Spanish for "draw" and "resignation" in chess. And that's what i need: a multilingual chess dictionary or a multilingual chess player. Otherwise, a barely unilingual chessplayer like me is helpless.

I searched and searched the net. All I found was a page that had all the chess pieces in 72 languages: http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Metro/9154/nap-pieces.htm. In case you wanna go there.

also:

rinde means 'it yields' in spanish.
i think (as others have already pointed out) that he is basically just offering you a draw.

So i guess he just "rinde" resigned. I did find a spanish english chess dictionary which was pretty incomplete. However, it did have "ajedrez"=chess. the guy i was playing had "aje" as his handle. Also "los tablas por acuerdo" means draw by agreement, so i guess it means Aje offered me a draw. Whoosh! What an effort to get something simple.

Wow, cool page, thanks!

I like the idea of a collection of other chess terms in different languages (maybe a little less than 72 would do...). If I ever have the time, I might work on it.

Yea, a good, accurate page of multilingual chess terms in various languages would be very helpful. Example would be "resignation" "white is better," "draw," etc.

Okay, I'll start by making a list of chess terms which should be on the multilingual chess page. Feel free to add to it.

chess
game
check
checkmate
stalemate
resign(ation)
draw
offer
white
black
move
piece
blunder
win
lose
better
worse
castle
en passant
zugzwang
zwischenzug
forced
Good luck!
Good game!
Thanks for the game!
