Spring festivities: Kids search for eggs, adults solve scavenger hunt (2024)

Berkeleyans of all ages can hunt for eggs in our parks – using their keen eyes, flashlights, or hidden clues – as part of a series of events organized by the City.

The littlest ones – ages 1-10 – can race for eggs spread across the grass alongside kids of their exact age. Afterward, kids can make crafts, play games, and pet bunnies.

Kids in grades 5-8 can scour the night using flashlights to find glow-in-the-dark eggs. Children 11 to 12 can complete an activity card to earn a small prize.

This year, we also have something for those 16 and older. Six-person teams will be given a set of clues and 90 minutes to find as many eggs as possible. We’ll have prizes!

All of these activities will be happening on March 29 or 30 across two of our City parks, San Pablo and César Chávez. Save time and avoid hassle: pre-register on our online recreation portal.

Friday, March 29: Glow-in-the-dark Flashlight Egg Hunt at San Pablo Park

Fifth through eighth graders should bring flashlights to search for glow-in-the-dark eggs on Friday night. They'll have a chance to win prizes, including an Xbox Series X.

Saturday, March 30: Spring Egg Hunt Extravaganza at César Chávez Park

Children ages 1-12 can join a quest for eggs or prizes!

For kids ages 1-10, there’s a Saturday morning egg hunt organized by age groups. Each child will receive a basket to gather eggs and spring goodies.

Ages 11 to 12 can take part in the Kid’s Scavenger Hunt. They can earn small prizes by completing tasks like spreading eggs, handing out “Mystery Eggs,” and helping with the Petting Zoo line.

The Spring Egg Hunt Extravaganza will also feature a petting zoo, a visit from a park’s staffer dressed up as a bunny, spring-themed crafts, an interactive kid’s carnival with prizes, and bunny hop dance lessons.
