Non-English Unique Boy Names

There are a ton of traditional names that are popular in other countries but still super unique here in our country. A fun way to come up with unusual baby boy names is also to honor a place you once visited or lived and maybe fell in love with.

1. Alessandre –This name is from Greek roots and means “defending men”.

2. Amadeo –This is great biblical name because it means, “love of God.” I love this option for a boy’s name because it honors God!

Things To Consider When Naming Your Baby

Here are some of my best tips to consider when deciding on the perfect name for your little boy.

Family Tree

Your family tree is a great way to come up with a name for your baby, even a unique name! There may be a family member from decades ago with a beautiful name that you would like to honor or even a family member that you are very close to. A family name can have roots to it which makes it even more special and gives you a story to tell your child when they grow up.

Meaning, Origin, and Popularity

When choosing your baby’s name, looking up the meaning, origin, and popularity can have a big pull on which name to choose. If you are in between a few names, knowing the meaning or where the name comes from can make the decision easier for you. You may not want a name that is popular on the social security administration’s list of baby names or a name that doesn’t have a strong meaning. Knowing everything about your baby’s name before you give it to them will make it that much more special when you tell them how you came up with their name.

The Spelling/ How it Sounds

Spelling and pronunciation are both huge when it comes to your baby’s first name! You want to make sure that you name them something that isn’t going to be a huge challenge for them, or anyone in their future to spell or pronounce. If you find a name that you think would be a great choice for your new baby, spell it out and even try alternate spelling options. Say it out loud a few times with your last name and be sure you love the way it sounds when said together.

Nicknames and Middle Names

Think of all possible nicknames that they may get with this name…kids can be mean! If kids in their future can call them an inappropriate nickname with that name, maybe reconsider. Now, you may not be able to think of every nickname but if there are obvious ones that may rhyme with that name then try something else that you love. Middle names are also an option to give your baby, but not necessary. So, if you choose to give your new baby a middle name, make sure you love how it sounds with their first name!

Different Cultures

Consider different cultures, especially if you are looking for a creative name that no one has in the US. Their may be a Greek word or a name from the United Kingdom that you would love to name your baby girl or boy. Different cultures have thousands of names that you may not have ever heard, so it is a great way to land on a unique name for your little one.

Rare Baby Boy Names

Searching for uncommon baby names can be eye opening and super fun to do with your spouse. There are so many cool names that we don’t hear normally in the United States so it is really interesting to hear what some of these uncommon boy names mean in other cultures. Naming your baby is such a blessing and there are so many different ways to come up with their name, you just have to dig deep!
